Members of the East Harlem Community that drop off their kitchen scraps at Carver Community Garden will get to witness how the food scraps they give away enriches the soil, and enhances the quality of the produce they receive in return. Do you want to be a part of a project that shows its community the full cycle of composting? If so, come volunteer with us!
Help Carver Community Garden greet members of the community; collect their kitchen scraps, and offer them an opportunity to take produce from the garden's community plot. Assist with chopping, mixing, and maintaining the garden's three bin, and tumbling composting systems. Learn about vermicoposting. Sift compost, and add it to the garden's community plots. Help with the overall maintenance of the garden's community plot. Weigh, and record the total pounds of kitchen scraps collected.
This event is for individuals over 18.
