Woodside - Curbside Composting Outreach

  • Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue Ubway Station (map)

Hand out flyers in Woodside to alert Queens residents that Curbside Composting will start on October 3!

Big Reuse, in partnership with the Department of Sanitation, is conducting outreach to increase awareness of and participation in Curbside Composting in Queens and we need your help!

Starting October 3, DSNY will pick up yard waste and food scraps from Queens residents. They can use their own bin with a secure lid and request a free Composting Bin Decal or request a free new brown bin by October 1. All buildings with 10+ units will automatically receive a brown bin. Join our outreach associates in handing out flyers with this information and chatting with Queens residents about the importance of composting. Once you register, we'll send you more details, information on the program and helpful tips.

Please note that we are asking volunteers to show proof of vaccination, and to wear a mask while conducting community outreach.

Are you a Master Composter?

This volunteer opportunity, upon completion, can be counted towards the 30 volunteer hours required for the Master Composter Certificate; in addition to the completion of 7 workshops and 2 field trips. Workshops, field trips and volunteer hours can be completed at any participating host-site citywide. For more information, including how to register for other opportunities, please visit https://www.makecompost.nyc/mastercomposter.

The Master Composter Certificate Course is an education and outreach program offered by the NYC Department of Sanitation (DSNY) and designed to build a citywide network of composters, advocates and educators to support community composting, drop-off composting, curbside composting, and backyard composting in NYC. The certificate course is offered year-round throughout all five boroughs.
